The I - IV minor chord progression is very common. It's a more complex sound that borrows the IV of a minor key and inserts it into a major key.

The IV minor chord is borrowed from the parallel minor scale.

When scales are "parallel" they share the same tonic or tonal centre. Therefore, C major and C minor are said to be parallel. The triads in C major and the triads in C minor in parallel look like this:
